the last spin of the broken record
July 8, 2006
People are paying for songs on the iTunes Music Store because they think it’s a good way to support musicians
The music industry, yes the giant piece of shit floating around us all. So what exactly is wrong with it apart from the fact its working to an unsustainable model.
Well were can we start lets start with how many artists the industry screws, lets work the proportion of the money that actually goes to the artists, were not talking the big names here were talking about the unknown artist that make great music not this all the same tripe that we here everyday (podsafe music network http://music.podshow.com) what money the little guy makes is eaten by the label who make well enough money without it.
So what about iTunes, i use itunes semi-regularly but you will never go through i year without hearing that Apple has rubbed another label up the wrong way – resulting in some countries not having music from a particular label or not having a music store at all. Why?, because apple knows that the backwards system of royalties and cuts is breaking the industry and know that they are still charging to much for the music on the store.
More on the backwards nature of the industry then; so lets see, too late in the online game, so they fight there corner suing the next generation of music buyers thus cutting the profits, trying to control something they cant and basically really pissing the people who make there massive profits off. is it just me that sees a nice vicious cycle going here, self-fulfilling prophecy anyone?
the record industry as we know it now, is doomed to fail. FULL STOP

Some things may be good but can still cause fustration
June 19, 2006
Seattle based Wetpaint has been in private beta since March. On Sunday night they launched to the world, allowing anyone to create a free wiki on any topic
TechCrunch » Blog Archive » Wetpaint Launches: Wikis Evolve
Do not take this as a stab at the developers, because i know how fustration it gets to make everything work with each other i.e. different browsers and operating systems (see my post about choice)
But it would be nice on website that dont support safari to say “sorry but your browser is not fully supported” in a nice small font so you can ignore it if you want, instead of being plastered across the top in red spoiling the experience, I subtle little comment will do, i personally would be then more inclined to launch firefox to see the true potential of what i am looking at.

It still doesn't solve the problem

Proving once again that “outdated technology” still has its place among today’s high-tech products, old-school film cameras may soon be the only
Prototype device detects, disables digital cameras – Engadget
I get extremely frustrated reading the new ways that the wonderful researches have found to stop piracy, while this article could have wide reaching uses the mere fact it mentioned piracy got me annoyed.
Why can’t the companies who are being pirated (or how ever you want to explain it) tackle why there is piracy rather than find ways to stop it, which never work because they are broken or sued for it i.e Sony’s wonderful rootkit.

The Problem is choice

Its coming up to my birthday and I am looking at things i want i.e. More gadgets so i am looking at a new phone i dont need anything overly fancy like a smart phone because i have my palm lifedrive so all i really need is a good solid 3G phone, so you would think that wouldn’t be a problem but it is because you start looking at a phone for me it was the Nokia 6280 i like it and set about finding the best deal but then you see another phone you like each time the price gets bigger and then you go back and end up going in circles.
Now lets see why we have soo much choice and it seems it is a unlikely culprit Money It could be, but it isn’t. No it is creativity we are too creative for our own good, we get a good idea and then that propogates into thousands of others spawning a new generation of people who couldn’t live without this thing whatever it may be. Which all equals a fustrating buying experience when you dont know exactly what you want.

Problems with 2.0 Companies
June 17, 2006
“why should we burn bandwidth and CPU cycles sending stuff directly to their servers?”
TechCrunch » Blog Archive » Why is Flickr afraid of Zooomr?
It would seem that there is a serious problem with some people within ‘Web 2.0′ companies this example being Flickr, i really cannot see the logic behind this, the service is created for the user it is the user that supports the services and makes them money. If a user wants to move or just try another service they should be able to, because it is not the companies choice.
By creating an API Flickr allows people to add there photo sharing functionality into there programs much like I do with Flock right now, but there is now reason this should be held from a person developing a similar system to the company in question, sharing is what started all this web 2.0 stuff off and it would seem it may just kill it before it has started.

End of an era it would seem, perhaps we may see some real innovation at microsoft for a change, much like office 2007 which has to be the best program microsoft has produced ever.

Sony to ban second-hand PS3 gamesLicensing plan described as ‘potentially catastrophic’ for electronics giant

Sony Exec Shrugs Off Xbox 360 Competition
Newsvine – Sony Exec Shrugs Off Xbox 360 Competition
it would seem that sony is totally oblivious to its audience and the fact they are loosing in every market they have there finger in.
The PSP is out sold by nearly 10 to 1 by the Nitendo Ds in Japan (i know not a fair fact but still) the PS3 is going to be extremely expensive, while i do not doubt the technology in the PS3 it is fundamentally the same as the 360 and is copying a few ideas with there Xbox Live! equivilent arguably the selling point of the 360.
Also by the fact of you only paying the license for the PS3 game in theory should make the games cheaper but the trend is play the game put on ebay or sell it to a friend, by getting rid of this option Sony a alienating the audience and securing their own interests only not really being creative.
The fact is the Nintendo Wii is the most inventive console, the 360 gets through being the first to market and a very good online system, while the PS3 has very little that is special apart from it being ugly and noting much special.
